Introduction

Pigment Red 4 (C.I. 12085; CAS 2814-77-9) , also known as Ortho-Chloro Red or Chlorinated Para Red, is a high-performance monoazo organic pigment. It features a bright yellowish-red hue, precisely between the more yellowish C.I. Pigment Orange 5 and the more bluish C.I. Pigment Red 3, with high color saturation and excellent dispersibility, boasting distinct core advantages. Its tinting strength is outstanding, especially in offset and packaging printing inks, significantly exceeding that of Pigment Orange 5 and Pigment Red 3. It has a lightfastness of Grade 6 (slightly darkening after exposure to sunlight, showing medium fastness overall) and a heat resistance of up to 140℃, with excellent cost-effectiveness.

It has a wide range of applications, suitable for air-drying paints, coatings, plastics, textiles, shoe polish, floor wax, colored chalk and watercolor. It is also compatible with Food Pigment Red 36 (USA), with only bleeding in baking enamels. Currently, it has 41 mature commercial grades available on the market, achieving comprehensive market coverage, and is a cost-effective choice for indoor and short-term applications.

Application

● Coatings. Pigment Red 4 is widely used in various coatings, including decorative coatings and industrial coatings. Due to its bright red color and good dispersibility, it is often used in interior wall coatings, furniture coatings, etc. In addition, PR4 is also used in coatings for automobiles and metal surfaces to provide a bright red effect.

● Printing inks. PR4 is a commonly used pigment in printing inks, especially in packaging printing and label printing.
