Introduction

Introduction

Pigment yellow 128 (CAS 79953-85-8) a greenish azo pigment with excellent resistance to solvents, light and weather. It is equivalent to Ciba Cromophtal Yellow 8GN/8GNP. It shows a green – tinged yellow color, with a hue value of 94.5. It has a relatively high saturation, presenting a bright green – yellow shade, which can provide a unique color effect in applications.

Advantages

1. Exceptional Color Performance

  • Vivid Greenish Yellow Hue: Exhibits a high-saturation greenish-yellow tone (hue value ~94.5), providing bright and distinctive coloration ideal for applications requiring vibrant, eye-catching shades.
  • Strong Tinting Strength: Excellent dispersibility allows minimal usage to achieve desired color intensity, reducing formulation costs.

2. Outstanding Weather & Light Fastness

  • UV and Outdoor Durability: Stable molecular structure resists fading or discoloration under prolonged UV exposure and outdoor conditions, achieving light fastness ratings of 7–8 (out of 8). This makes it suitable for outdoor coatings, plastic building materials, and other weather-sensitive applications.
  • Superior to Most Azo Pigments: Its weather resistance is second only to Pigment Yellow 109, offering enhanced durability compared to conventional azo pigments.

3. Robust Chemical & Physical Stability

  • Solvent and Migration Resistance: Resists extraction by organic solvents (e.g., alcohols, ketones, esters) and migration from plastic matrices, making it suitable for inks, coatings, and plastic products (including food packaging materials requiring low migration).
  • Acid and Alkali Resistance: Maintains color stability in weak acidic or alkaline environments, fitting for industrial coatings exposed to chemical media.

4. Moderate to High Heat Resistance

  • Heat Tolerance up to 250°C: Withstands the mid-to-high temperatures (typically ≤230°C) during processing of polyolefins (e.g., PE, PP), preventing thermal decomposition or hue shift.
  • Note: While less heat-resistant than some metal complex pigments (e.g., PY 110, which withstands >300°C), PY 128 remains well-suited for most conventional plastic coloring.

5. Broad Application Compatibility

  • Multi-Industry Adaptability: Shows excellent dispersibility and stability in plastics (polyolefins, PVC), solvent/water-based coatings, and printing inks (offset, gravure), requiring minimal formulation adjustment across different systems.
  • Environmental Safety: Free of heavy metals, complying with standards like EU RoHS and EN71-3 (toy safety), making it suitable for eco-friendly packaging and toys.
